If you are chuckling at the image of a man twisting around in front of a mirror to apply an agitated bee to his butt, I assure you that you are not alone. “Some locations required the use of a mirror and an erect posture during stinging (e.g., buttocks),” he wrote. He kept this up for 38 days, stinging himself three times each on 25 different body parts. He administered five stings a day, always between 9 and 10am, and always starting and ending with “test stings” on his forearm to calibrate the ratings. Pain is very hard to measure, but psychological studies have found that numerical scales do a decent job of putting numbers on an inherently subjective experience. He left the stinger there for a full minute before removing it, and then rated his pain on a scale of 1 to 10. In this line of work, stings are a common and inevitable hazard. Smith is a graduate student at Cornell University, who studies the behaviour and evolution of honeybees. It started when a honeybee flew up Michael Smith’s shorts and stung him in the testicles.

The DWG files I import often have colours applies to the edges. If you don’t do this you are likely to suffer from the mighty “clipping bug” where as you navigate around your model parts of it will appear to be clipped away and you start seeing through your model. SketchUp doesn’t handle extremely large units very well – which is what you will get if you import a DWG which was drawn at world coordinates. If you import with the incorrect units and simply scale up or down the geometry to fit you might run into accuracy problems.Īlso ensure that “Preserve drawing origin” is unchecked. SketchUp does not detect the unit from the DWG file. Important! Click the Options button in the file dialogue and ensure the units are correct. In AutoCAD you can do this by typing the command: UNITS Importing into SketchUp 9. His mother Minervina was either a concubine or a first wife to Constantine. The earliest date is most likely, since he was being tutored in 309–310 by Lactantius. He is considered likely to have been born between 299 and 305, possibly as early as 295, somewhere in the eastern Roman Empire. After his death, Crispus was subjected to damnatio memoriae.Ĭrispus's year and place of birth are uncertain. Fausta, whose son Constantius II became caesar in November 324, was also put to death, and the Late Greek historian Zosimus and the Byzantine Greek writer Joannes Zonaras wrote that Constantine had accused Crispus of incest with his stepmother. According to the Latin histories of Ammianus Marcellinus and Aurelius Victor, after a trial whose real circumstances are mysterious, Constantine executed Crispus at Pola ( Pula) in 326. ![]() Within two years of the defeat and surrender of Licinius, Constantine had not only put his brother-in-law and former co- augustus to death, but also executed his nephew Licinius II, the son of his sister Flavia Julia Constantia. Crispus was three times Roman consul, for the years 318, 321, and 324. After his elevation to imperial rank, at which point he was also entitled princeps iuventutis ("Prince of Youth"), the Latin rhetorician Nazarius composed a panegyric preserved in the Panegyrici Latini, which honoured Crispus's military victories over the Franks in c. While at Augusta Treverorum, Crispus's praetorian prefect for the prefecture of Gaul was the great Junius Annius Bassus. Crispus may be the young prince depicted on the Gemma Constantiniana, a great cameo depicting Constantine and his wife Fausta, though the depiction may instead be of Fausta's own son, the future augustus Constantius II. Italian helmet barbute was popular among dismount warriors. It could be raised up and fixed in such position. It consisted of two halves, which were connected with metal pins. Dome of spherical shape had narrow eye-slits. Back part of this head armour covered neck rather tightly, continuing its anatomical structure. These sallets had large neck-flap and become a feature element on Gothic armour.Ĭlosed helmet armet got widespread use on the South of Europe in the XV century. Helmets often could be decorated with top figures, such as wings, horns, etc. Armourers of different European countries were inventing various kind of such helmet. There could be reinforcement rib of the form of small comb in the middle of dome. Salad (or sallet), semi-spherical helmet with elongated neck-flap and curved edge, replaced bascinet in the middle of the XV century. Shape of klappvisor became more roundish, and big quantity of holes was designed for better vision and breathing. Solid plate provided with additional protection of chin and neck. The more bowed type of bascinet – Grand bascinet – had appeared in Germany in the end of the XIV century. They were called “ hounskull” or “hundskugel” for similarity with dog muzzle. Some types of klappvisors had drawn pointed shape. Starting the XV century, bascinets were equipped with klappvisor – a type of visor, which was hinged at the central part of helmets’ forehead. So-called “Onion top” bascinet had pointed top and movable visor (with holes and eye-slits or grid). Helmets were distinguished by crown’s and visor’s shapes. Helmet bascinet had multifarious variant of design and provided with good protection at the same time. This type of medieval helmet had high crown of spherical or conical shape. So great helms passed out of use by warriors.īascinet (or bassinet) replaced heavy topfhelms. Such design was defending at the highest level during the lance tilting on tournaments, but not during dismounted battles. Knights usually were wearing steel cervelliere with mail aventail under the topfhelm. The Great Helm suffered some changes in the early XIV century: protective face plate of harder metal had being attached to the metal conical-shaped dome. Generally, horsemen were using topfhelms, as this helmet had very limited visibility. As eye slits were rather narrow, there were additional ventilation holes on the front side. It could be decorated with additional cross plates. Facepiece of this type of helmet had cross-shaped protrusion. Since Crusades of the XII century, European knights were wearing pot helms (another names “Topfhelm”, “ The Great Helm”) during more than two centuries. This head protection was in use until the middle of the XVI century. Wide brims were lowered a bit, and sometimes had narrow eye slits. Chapel was made as roundish headpiece (slightly conical-shaped or bell-typed). Due to ease of making, helmet was so cheap, that even warriors from lower social classes were able to afford it.
